Two New Pathologists Join Peoria Tazewell Pathology Group (Peoria, IL) Ronald Champagne, M.D., president of Peoria Tazewell Pathology Group (PTPG), has announced that two new board certified pathologists will join the physician group starting July 1, 2010. “We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Wei Liu and Dr. Michael D. Spears to our staff,” Dr. Champagne said. “Their special interests will contribute to our well-rounded group of pathologists.” Wei Liu, M.D., Ph.D. Board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology, Dr. Liu specializes in hematopathology and molecular genetics. She received her medical degree from Shandong Medical University in China and received her doctorate in molecular genetics and microbiology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Liu continued her career by completing research fellowships at Princeton University and UT Southwestern Medical Center at Texas. She then received residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, where she served as chief resident in her final year. Dr. Liu recently completed additional subspecialty training in hematopathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. Michael D. Spears, M.D. A graduate of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Spears was inducted into the delta chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society in his senior year. He completed his residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and is also board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Spears completed an additional year of training in hematopathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. About PTPG Peoria Tazewell Pathology Group is made up of physicians who specialize in a variety of areas of pathology, including dermatopathology, forensic toxicology, surgical pathology, anatomical pathology, clinical pathology, cytopathology and hematopathology. An independent group with a local and regional base, the practice consists of physicians and physician associates/assistants who provide professional pathology and laboratory services for eight area hospitals (Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Hammond-Henry Hospital, Graham Hospital, Kewanee Hospital, Methodist Medical Center, Pekin Hospital, Perry Memorial Hospital and Proctor Hospital).
