Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a neurodegenerative disease induced by repeated blows to the head. Clinically, it is characterized by cognitive decline, mood disorders, and parkinsonism.
It is common when interpreting cervical biopsies to have discrepancies about which lesions are simply viral infections or benign mimickers (eg, atrophy, tangential sectioning, and benign metaplasia) versus those that truly represent neoplastic or precancerous lesions having the potential to go on to invasive carcinoma.
In addition to the numerous clinical consultations which occur within the nine hospitals, the members of the group are actively involved with consultations from all over Central Illinois and around the country.
